Camera Shots – Dutch Tilt

A Dutch tilt, also known as a canted angle, is a twisted angle, used to disorientate the viewer. In The Sandman it is used when the young boy climbs the long staircase to his room, which shows his paranoia and scared thoughts as he is without his mother’s protection. This is effective as the audience feels the same way as the boy does, as it is unnatural and unnerving.
